TUSCANY/Leonardo,500 years later

Shooting started on August 22nd in Florence on the Netflix produced action thriller “Six Underground”, directed by Michael Bay and starring Ray Reynolds. 450 people will be involved in the shooting which will last for six weeks, and will include the whole historical center of Florence, the banks of the river Arno – ‘Lungarni’ – as well as the neighborhood of San Niccolò and Santa Croce.

“Inside Leonardo”, the docufilm dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci produced by Sky and Progetto Immagine will start filming in Tuscany in September and will be released in time to mark the five hundredth anniversary of his death in May 1519.
The film will be shot in Vinci, in the Tuscan countryside, in Milan, Rome and France, and will star Luca Argentero in the role of Leonardo.
Tuscany will once again be telling the stories of its most brilliant artists one year after Andrei Konchalovsky filmed “Il peccato” dedicated to Michelangelo Buonarroti in 2017, in the Henraux quarries of Seravezza and other locations situated between the provinces of Massa Carrara, Florence, Arezzo and Siena.
This work was one of the winners of the 2017 open call of the Accordo di Programma Quadro (APQ) Sensi Contemporanei Toscana per il Cinema [Framework Agreement for Cinema] dedicated to feature length movies and TV dramas.
Another open call set up within the sphere of Sensi Contemporanei to support documentaries was published online from 10th May to 15th June 2018 by the Toscana Film Commission.
The 50 projects in the running will bring a new season of sets to the region from September onwards.

The support of the APQ has facilitated the development of important infrastructures to sustain audiovisual production like the two new centers of the Manifatture Digitali Cinema in Prato and Pisa, further boosting the network of collaborations and synergies implemented with the municipal administrations. In the Municipality of Volterra, for example, an internship- workshop will be held where the teacher, costume designer Alessandro Lai, will bring the experience developed at the Manifatture Digitali Cinema Prato’s Bottega di Alta Specializzazione [High Specialization Workshop] to the cities in the hills around Pisa and will produce, with the participants, the costumes for the Lux Vide-branded Rai Uno TV series “I Medici”.

The collaboration with the municipalities of Florence and Prato – as well as with the Regione Toscana and Toscana Promozione Turistica – is instead strategic for the set of the TV series “Pezzi Unici” directed by Cinzia Th Torrini, starring Sergio Castellitto, together with Giorgio Panariello and produced by Indiana Production for Rai Fiction. The drama valorizes the work of high range Tuscan craftsmanship.
