2018 has been a very satisfying year for the Emilia Romagna Film Commission: it has hosted 9 production companies in the region for scouting activities and some of them have followed up on their on-site visits by turning the locations proposed into sets.
The Emilia-Romagna Region has taken the political decision to structure the Film Commission as an in-house business, entrusting the specific activities connected to the Cinema sector to a staff of 5 people and unifying the activities of a “traditional” Film Commission: the management of the Funds and the resources for supporting not just promotion but also theatrical exhibitors as well as the promotion of theatrical culture in its myriad facets.
It should be remembered that the support for activities related to audiovisual development and production is manifested through 3 open calls with a commitment of resources amounting to over € 2 million.
Briefly: with regard to development, out of 42 requests presented, 15 received funding totaling €108,000. With regard to production, the open call for national companies received 38 responses, 17 of which received funding, for a total contribution of € 1,445,594.78, while regarding the open call for regional companies, 13 out of the 46 requests received were funded for a total contribution of € 875,922.96.
It could be said that the region is constantly active if we reflect that, according to the dossier of productions supported, in 2016 there were only 19 days in the whole year in which no filming took place in Emilia-Romagna. In the remaining 346 days there was always an active set involving a total of 562 operators resident in the Regione Emilia-Romagna as far as the projects supported is concerned for which notification is compulsory. The first reported figures for 2017 seem to confirm the impact and the numbers of a sector that is continuing to grow.
It’s not just production and development: a great amount of attention is paid to the public and the exhibition strategies, without forgetting new paths in audiovisuals through the relationship with videogame developers.
In addition to a solid relationship with and its important support for the presence and activities of the Bologna Cineteca, a place of international significance due to its capacity for conserving and valorizing theatrical culture, the Region promotes and supports the organization of festivals and quality shows in which there is a space for the works supported by the Audiovisual Fund. 44 requests were received in 2018, 38 of which obtained funding, more precisely 22 annual festivals and 16 events for a total contribution of € 560,000.
Added to these resources is the three year commitment to supporting events and festivals such as Cinema Ritrovato, organized by the Cineteca with our contribution, Biografilm and the Future Film Festival.
Also thanks to the 2014-2020 European Funds of the Regione Emilia-Romagna, the FC has implemented hospitality actions for productions, promoting and flanking the productions supported at important rendezvous.
