A delicate and fascinating portrait of a group of centenarians who live in three ‘paradises of longevity’ that are very far away from each other: this is “Kentannos” by Viktor Cruz, produced by Argentina’s Motoneta Cine in co-production with 16M.films and with Giovanni Pompili’s Italian Kino Produzioni, the project that won the Development Award at When East Meets West.
The award was assigned by an international jury consisting of Matthieu Darras (TORINOFILMLAB), Nikolaj Nikitin (SOFA – SCHOOL OF FILM AGENTS) and Kristina Trapp (EAVE).
The scholarship for the EAVE workshop was awarded to Rok Sečen, the Slovenian producer of “History of Love” by Sonja Prosenc, who also won the new TRL Espresso, the result of the collaboration between WEMW, the Film London Production Finance Market and New Cinema Network, which guarantees the project selected a ‘place’ at future editions of these two markets.
The new Flow Postproduction Award which consists of ten thousand Euros to be used in the Antwerp studios of the Belgian company Flow Postproduction, was won by ”Foam at the Mouth” produced by Aija Berzina and Alise Gelze (Tasse Film) and directed by Janis Nords (Latvia- Lithuania-Poland)
The quality of the projects selected resulted in another “surprise award”, as Alessandro Gropplero called it: Julie Bergeron of the Marché du Film decided to make available two free badges for the next Producers’ Network in Cannes which will go to the Turkish producer Asli Filiz (for the documentary “For Women Only”) and the Polish producer Agnieszka Dziedzic (for the project “Stances and Statues”).
Finally, the winner of the HBO award, assigned by a jury made up of Catherine Le Clef (CAT&Docs), Hanka Kastelicova (HBO Europe) and Claudia Schreiner (MDR), was “See you in Chechnya” by Alexander Kvatashidze (for the Last Stop Trieste section dedicated to projects on which work is still in progress).
WEMW is organized by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Audiovisual Fund, along with the Trieste Film Festival, in collaboration with EAVE, Maia work- shops, Creative Europe Desk Italy MEDIA, Eurimages and with the support of Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme, Direzione Generale per il Cinema – MiBACT, CEI (Central European Initiative), Confartigianato Udine and the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
