#LeMedie (#IntheMiddle), a 52×11′ sitcom for the demanding 7-12 target group is the new project by Graphilm based on the series of books of the same name by Annalisa Strada, published by Giunti Editore.
In middle school every tiny element of your existence becomes a giant problem and this is where the idea came from for a 2D animated sit-com about this delicate pre-adolescent phase: the first pimples, the first crushes, when each day is the most important day of your life and every single event feels like a tragedy…
Alfred, a new Virgil, the protagonist of the series, will help the children who have left elementary school to “survive” the middle school of which he knows all its secrets. A dark and treacherous journey that will transform them into adolescents.
Presented at the recent Cartoon Forum in Toulouse, #LeMedie is just the latest title by the Rome-based production company founded exactly thirty years ago by Maurizio Forestieri which, again in Toulouse, was one of the five studios nominated for Producer of the year at Tributes, the Cartoon awards given for results, companies or personalities that have had a positive and dynamic influence on the European animation industry.
The TV series “Nefertine on the Nile”, (52 x 11’ episodes) is currently being made in co-production with the French company Cyber Group Studios, a leader in the production and distribution of programs for kids and India’s DQ Entertainment.
The series is about the adventures of Nefertine, an Egyptian girl, her friend Piramses and her cat Micerina at the time of Ancient Egypt.
Production should be completed by the end of 2020.
Also in production is a 9 minute TV special “Hanukkah-La prima festa”, a story of solidarity and love set in 1945 during the Jewish feast of Hanukkah, or the Festival of Lights, which is scheduled to be broadcast next Christmas on Rai.
Graphilm is also bringing forward the live-action/animation hybrid TV series project (26 x 26’) “The King’s Gang” that narrates the adventures of four kids from the present day who find themselves catapulted back into the Middle Ages to fight at the side of a young king, Frederick II, in order to save his life, kingdom and the world of today from darkness.
Finally, the “La Custodia” project is currently in the development phase, a half hour TV special about the right of every child to dream about their future. The project got a favorable reception from the markets. Production is due to begin next year.
