France will be the Country of Honor at the upcoming edi- tion of MIPTV, the international market for entertainment content development and distribution, which takes place in Cannes, France from April 8th – 11th 2019.
In September France’s promotional association for exports, TV France International, reported impressive figures for French TV programming on foreign markets in 2017, with total revenue of € 325 million – the second-best performance in the past 20 years.
French exports go well beyond Europe with a notable increase for the United States and Canada, which was up 16% last year.
Animation accounted for 37% of the total export revenue. Meanwhile, the documentary genre recorded its second-best performance in 10 years, while foreign sales of drama series had a record year with a 28% increase compared to 2016.
More and more French-made series of all kinds are traveling the world and reaching international audiences.
Series like “Le Bureau des Légendes” (The Bureau) or “Midnight sun” (TV France Ex- port Prize 2018) are paving the way for the consistent success of other drama series like the long-running “Candice Renoir”, the Sci-fi “Mis- sions” or the political “Baron Noir”.
“The timing could not be better to celebrate France’s creativity and savoir-faire on the international content scene. French creators and producers are developing more and more programs with international appeal without sacrificing that undefinable French touch,” says Laurine Garaude, Director of the Television Division at Reed MIDEM, which organizes MIPTV.
“France is our home. Our story started here ten years ago and we have since gone on to build a business which houses iconic national talent including Nagui and Cyril Hanouna” adds Marco Bassetti, CEO, Bani- jay Group. “Now that we have become the leading production entity on the French market, we are thrilled to see the country recognized at this year’s MIPTV and look forward to celebrating the nation’s achievements at the market.”
Together with MIPTV, the second edition of CANNESERIES will be back in Cannes from April 5th – 10th.
