CAMPANIA/The Law and the Funds

Approved in October 2016, the Legge Regionale Cinema Campania [Campania Regional Cinema Law] is evidence of the Campania region’s renewed attention to the potential for economic development, cultural growth and regional promotion that audiovisual production can guarantee. The implementation of the law through a Three Year Program and an Annual Operational Plan provides an annual allocation of € 5 million for the period 2017 – 2019 that has been divided up as follows: production support (€ 2,050,000), contributions for film culture promotion (€ 1,700,000), support for theatrical exhibitors (€ 900,000), as well as resources for launching professional refresher course projects and for the planning of a Regional Multimedia Library.

In addition to the ordinary funds provided by the “Cinema Campania” Law, the Region, through European funds (POC Campania 2014 – 2020 “Cultural assets and activities – cinema and audiovisual production”), has already set aside a €4 million fund (una tantum allocation) to support film and audiovisual productions. The call published at the beginning of 2017 attracted 129 nancing requests divided into the three categories: films, docs and shorts.

Further resources were also earmarked from POC Campania 2014 – 2020 for the “Nuove strategie per il cinema in Campania-New strategies for cinema in Campania” project, entrusted to the Film Commission Regione Campania in its capacity as the implementing subject. The funding – € 2 million – will cover the three years (2017-2019) planned
