CALENDAR/From MIA to the ROME FILM FEST

Today it is important that Film Commissions can act in accordance with their new role as all-round developmental levers for the theatrical and audiovisual sector, not just as support structures during filming”.

The words of Cristina Priarone, director of the Roma Lazio Film Commission, also clarify the vocation of the structure she heads and the role it plays as a pivot between the world of audiovisuals and the region. “We act on several fronts” continues Priarone, “on one side searching for new talent, like the project realized with MedienBoard Berlin–Brandenburg, an exchange of filmmakers in creative residences and, on the other side, by supporting development through the Crossing Script Open Call.
Moreover, we organize international workshops in the region to support the development of co-productions like Eave Puentes which was held in Fiuggi in recent months, or like the next annual meeting of Cineregio which will be attended by all the directors of the European funds in our region”.

At the MIA – the International Audiovisual Market to be held in Rome from October 16 to 20 – the Roma Lazio Film Commission will meet members of the trade in Palazzo Barberini, in the Italian Film Commissions space and on the Regione Lazio stand.

Two initiatives in particular will be presented to accredited visitors: the Crossing Script open call and the Lazio Frames Award.
Aimed at scriptwriters, the Crossing Script open call is dedicated to searching for theatrical story-lines that are suitable for co-productions between Israel and Lazio: this is the result of the collaboration between the Roma Lazio Film Commission and the Israel Cinema Project of the Rabinovich Foundation in Tel Aviv.
Launched at the Cannes Film Festival 2019, the two winners will be announced at the MIA.

The Regione Lazio’s Lazio Frames Award targets the resources of the region that are projected towards other countries and will be assigned to a work present in the MIA sections (“What’s next Italy”, “Greenlit” and “Italians doc it better“) whose content, production impact, possible international development and involvement of regional resources manage to optimally represent the production potential of Lazio, highlighting the region’s talents and locations.

At the MIA the collaboration will also be maintained with the European Producers’ Club (EPC), which began in Cannes, continuing the networking action with international producers, presenting the regional co-production resources and locations in Lazio to EPC members.
The Regione Lazio Roma Lazio Film Commission Space will also be open to the public at the 14th edition of the Rome Film Fest, to be held from October 17 to 27 2019, where the Roma Lazio Film Commission will present an intense program of events.
The rendezvous with CineCampus Atelier – Professioni Cinematografiche returns, an ini- tiative set up in 2016 dedicated to technical professions with specific lessons moderated by Mario Tani.
Many daily events have been scheduled with experts in the theatrical sector.
Luciano Tovoli, Stefano Reali and Federico Belati have taken part in past editions of the CineCampus Atelier.

Visitors to the Roma Lazio Film Commission space will also be offered a different way to discover Lazio and its locations with a chance to experience – using special visors – an immersive 3D vision of locations in Lazio.
This “location 360” APP can be downloaded for free from the Appstore and Google Play store. A unique experience to discover more about the region and its countless natural sets.

An important training rendezvous also returns to the Auditorium Parco della Musica: Cine- Campus – Lezioni di Cinema (Film Lessons).
The Roma Lazio Film Commission organizes masterclasses with leading professionals from the theatrical and audiovisual sector for young students and film fans.
Moderated by Steve della Casa, the masterclasses are dedicated to production, acting and directing and involve the participation of major sector professionals.
The calendar for this year’s edition includes, among others, Amos Gitai, Mario Martone, Lillo & Greg, Gabriella Pession.

Finally, with regard to promotion, we should mention the Film Commission’s activities on its social network channels with the #location- delcuore, #PillolediSaggezza and #SOScinema- giovani initiatives that offer an opportunity to get to know Lazio’s many locations in a new way.
It is possible to watch interviews with entertainment professionals again on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Actors, producers, scriptwriters, set decorators, costume designers, journalists and writers present their favorite location in Lazio, giving useful advice to all the young people who want to get closer to the world of cinema.
